Rock Creek JV falls to Council Grove in doubleheader

The JV softball team fell short in a back-and-forth affair against Council Grove on Thursday, but eventually Council Grove prevailed 17-15. The game was tied at 14 in the top of the 7th, Council Grove scored 3 and Rock Creek could only add one in the bottom of the inning. Despite the loss, Rock Creek JV did collect 15 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Council Grove had 19 hits on the way to victory. The Mustangs JV scored four runs in the fifth inning. Rock Creek Mustangs JV scored on a triple by Leighton Herrman, a single by Morgan Searle, and a double by Carmen Mallon. Searle, Herrman, Mallon, Kaitlin Nelson, Lori Huston, and Tatum Brunkow each collected multiple hits for Rock Creek in the outing. Herrman and Mallon each drove in two runs to lead in the RBI category. Searle took the loss, throwing all seven innings, striking out five, and walking one. In game two of the twinbill Rock Creek JV watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 14-4 loss to Council Grove. Council Grove took an early lead in the first inning and eventually scored 6 in the top of the first inning. Rock Creek JV answered in the fourth inning with one and scored three runs in the fifth inning. Rock Creek Mustangs JV’s big inning was driven by a triple by Annie Parrick. Lori Huston, Kaitlin Nelson, and Parrick each drove in one run in the game. Carmen Mallon took the loss for Rock Creek Mustangs JV. She went five innings, striking out four, and walking zero. The mustang defense was plagued with 8 errors, making it tough to come from behind in the 2nd game.
