Rock Creek splits games with McLouth

Rock Creek softball fell to McLouth 6-5 on Thursday on the final play of the game. McLouth took an early lead in the first inning and led 4-1 heading into the top of the 6th. Rock Creek scored 2 runs in the 6th inning via a leadoff double by Brynn Hammett followed by an RBI single from Olivia Lee. Lee scored by a sacrifice fly from Haley Petty. Rock Creek was able to take the lead briefly in the top of the 7th inning whenbrookhit Joceline Eichem singled, pinch runner Mackinzie Zolck was moved to 2nd by Maddi Figge’s sac bunt. Zolck scored off of Brook Dillon’s hit and Dillon gave the Mustangs the lead off of a single from Hammett.
McLouth was down 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but was able to plate two runs in the bottom of the frame to finish/win the game. Rock Creek had eight hits in the game. Hammett and Olivia Lee each collected multiple hits. Hammett led all hitters with four hits in four at bats. Brynn Hammett took the loss for Mustangs while striking out seven.

In the nightcap, Rock Creek defeated McLouth 16-6 (in 5 innings) in part to Jayden Weers, who drove in six runs. Weers drove in runs on a single in the first, a home run in the second, and a double in the third.An early lead helped propel Rock Creek to victory. Rock Creek scored eight runs in the second inning. The big inning was ignited by a home run by Demi Kunkel and a home run by Weers. McLouth scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brynn Hammett earned the win. She tossed five innings, with seven hits, striking out five. Rock Creek had an impressive 19 hits in the outing – one from each Mustang that came to the plate in the game. Weers, Brook Dillon, Maddi Figge, Kunkel, Hammett, Olivia Lee, Eichem, and Jessica Kildow each collected multiple hits, while Haley Petty doubled and Laney Scott sinlged.

Rock Creek is 4-2 on the season and will continue play on Monday when they travel to St. Marys to begin MEL play.
