Rock Creek JV splits with Clay Center

In game one of games played on Monday, April 10 a walk-off left Rock Creek Mustangs JV on the wrong end of a 10-9 defeat to Clay Center. The game was tied at nine with Clay Center at bat in the bottom of the leightonhittinginning, generating one run that ended the game.  The Mustangs led nearly the entire game, up 9-5 in the 5th. Rock Creek JV scored nine runs in the failed comeback led by Tatum Brunkow in the third, a single by Morgan Searle in the third, a double by Kaitlin Nelson in the third, a double by Leighton Herrman in the fourth, a single by Searle in the fourth, a double by Ariana Reed in the fourth, and a single by Nelson in the fourth. Clay Center knotted the game up at nine in the bottom of the fifth inning. Erin Hammel drove in two when she homered in the fifth inning.  Rock Creek had a big 4th inning thanks to a double by Herrman, a single by Searle, a double by Reed, and a single by Nelson. Searle took the loss for Rock Creek Mustangs JV. She tossed five innings, striking out five, and walking one. The Mustangs JV collected 15 hits. Searle, Nelson, Mackinzie Zolck, Herrman, and Reed each collected multiple hits for the Mustangs. Herrman, Zolck, Nelson, and Searle each managed three hits to lead Rock Creek. 

Bats Blistered As Rock Creek Mustangs JV Defeats Clay Center in game 2

There were runs aplenty on Monday, as Rock Creek JV defeated Clay Center 17-7. Rock Creek  took an early lead in the first inning. Tatum Brunkow’s sac fly scored one for Rock Creek.  Rock Creek Mustangs JV took the lead for good with six runs in the second inning. In the second Kayla Malbrough doubled, driving in two runs, Carmen Mallon doubled driving in two runs, Kaitlin Nelson singled, driving in one run, and Annie Parrick earned a walk to drive in a run. RC scored six runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to a double by Brunkow, a single by Nelson, a single , and a double by Emily Ritchey.  Mallon earned the win for Rock Creek . She went five innings, surrendering seven runs, and striking out seven.

emilyhittingRock Creek JV had 18 hits in the game. Malbrough, Ritchey, Brunkow, Mallon, Ariana Reed, and Nelson each collected multiple hits.  Brunkow, Ritchey, and Malbrough each drove in three runs to lead the Mustangs. Rock Creek is now 3-1 on the season; with a busy upcoming week, games slated at home on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
