Mustang Softball splits with Alma in games played Tuesday night at Rock Creek

Rock Creek built a seven-run lead in the fourth inning and then held off Wabaunsee’s charge for a 10-9 victory. Rock Creek collected ten hits in the game.

Brynn Hammett hit a shot that landed for a homerun to ignite the offense in the thir inning. The Mustangs scored five runs in the fourth inning on a home run by Jayden Weers, a double by Maddi Figge, a single by Brook Dillon, and a single by Demi Kunkel.  Brook Dillon went 3-3 while Demi Kunkel went 3-4 notching 6 of the Mustang’s 10 hits. Brynn Hammett earned her 8th win for the season as she tossed all seven innings, striking out five.

brynnhomerJayden Weers had a 4-4 outing in game two, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Wabaunsee in game two, falling 19-7. Weers homered in the first, had 2 doubles and singled in the contest. Rock Creek had 11 hits but Wabaunsee had 18 in the high-scoring affair. Rock Creek scored two runs in the first to take the lead off of Weers’ two out homer.  Wabaunsee took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning and then continued an offensive show to go up 14-2 headed into the fifth. Rock Creek scored five runs in the fifth inning to extend the game. The big inning was thanks to a home run by Brynn Hammett, a single by Maddi Figge, a single by Brook Dillon, and a single by Leighton Herrman.  “I was at least proud of our will in the 5th to avoid the run-rule after having the wind knocked our of our sails, it’s hard to chase 10 runs once you get your back against a wall. We didn’t quit.”

Searle took the loss for the Mustangs, throwing 3 innings. Carmen Mallon completed the second half of the innings from the mound.  Herrman and Weers each had multiple hits and drove in two runs.  Rock Creek is 8-6 on the season and will face MEL opponent Silver Lake on Thursday at 4:00 at Silver Lake.

Rock Creek will honor seniors Brynn Hammett, Jayden Weers, Olivia Lee and Jessica Kildow at the final home games of the season on Tuesday, May 9 at a 4:00 home start.
